About the Role

The Director of Professional Development & Academic Support will lead a growing team of Field Educators to provide ongoing instructional support to schools implementing New Classrooms programs.  The Director will create, plan, and help implement a framework for developing school capacity, in concert with the overall academic design of the program.  As well, this role will be responsible for the design of professional development for all New Classrooms offerings.

This presents an opportunity to leverage deep expertise and creativity to promote the success of one of the most innovative reimaginings of teaching and learning happening today.  The Director of Professional Development & Academic Support will report to the Chief of Program and Chief Academic Officer.

What You Would Do

Central Team Leadership:

  • – Lead a team of Field Educators in planning and facilitating the provision of high quality support for school personnel
  • – Work collaboratively with other Field Department Leaders to develop and administer strategy for successful New Classrooms program implementation and to respond to situational challenges and opportunities
  • – Design a coherent approach to provide coaching, technical assistance, and professional development in all areas of program design
  • – Plan training and support for all New Classrooms offerings
  • – Consult in the instructional design of new offerings
  • – Manage special projects such as orientations, summer institutes, and cross-school events
  • – Ensure that every school implementing New Classrooms programs has a system in place for regularly assessing and evaluating all students and staff to support higher levels of performance
  • – Build strong relationships with school leaders and teachers that establish the schools as key partners in increasing student achievement.

Direct Support of Field Education:

  • – Provide direct implementation of ongoing professional development and/or consultation in targeted schools across multiple districts
  • – Support teacher teams and school administrators in collecting, interpreting, and making instructional changes based upon student achievement data and work samples
  • – Help principals and school leaders to articulate instructional expectations and make organizational decisions for teachers who teach at a school where student thinking is actively promoted, valued, and made visible

What We Are Looking For

  • – Master’s or advanced degree(s) in education administration or a related field
  • – 7+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in education administration and/or leadership including at least 5 years of direct managerial experience
  • – Demonstrated experience and passion for work in K-12 education
  • – Experience working in public schools, either in a teaching capacity or other professional role
  • – Experience leading a school reform effort, either as a staff member or an outside facilitator
  • – Knowledge and understanding of theory and practice of school reform and instruction, curriculum, and assessment
  • – Ability to recognize and act upon unforeseen opportunities
  • – Ability to maintain organizational commitment to high quality work products, and give and receive feedback
  • – Comfort working in a highly collaborative start-up/entrepreneurial work environment
  • – Strong leadership level facilitation and teaming skills
  • – Natural tendency toward innovative and creative problem solving
  • – Ability and willingness to travel overnight up to 20-25% of the time
