Instructional Support Literacy Coach

Job Description

Meeker School District is seeking professionals to fill the role of a Literacy Coach, whose responsibility is to oversee and implement literacy performance of readers in general or struggling readers in K-3 grades. The Literacy Coach in this role works closely with external facilitators, Principal, and other relevant school/district administrators, teachers, and parents to accomplish the school district’s literacy goals. This individual will not have direct classroom duties but will work alongside teachers to ensure students develop skills necessary to become proficient readers.

Meeker School District has an approximate enrollment of 720 students in grades Pre-K through Twelve. The Elementary School has approximately 340 students preschool-5th. We are seeking an individual who has the understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of the elementary school student. Professional involvement beyond the local level and successful teaching experience are desirable. Job Functions/Qualifications:

  • Displays, at all times, acceptable professional and ethical standards including, but not limited to:  confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation and positive attitude, reliability/punctuality, timeliness in respect to deadlines, respectfulness toward others
  • Professional Development:
    • Provide resources and training to school staff on scientifically based reading research and evidence-based practices;
  • Assessment:
    • Lead and coordinate the school leadership team: Help administer the literacy assessments for screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic, and outcomes
  • Curriculum and Instruction:
    • Use available guidance for reviewing core, supplemental, and intensive intervention materials under consideration for purchase for evidence of alignment with the literacy project
  • School Liaison:
    • Meet regularly with the Principal, Coordinator of Academics, external facilitator, and others to assess the progress of the implementation of the Early Literacy Grant project and to modify elements as necessary
  • Assists with planning on an as-needed basis for structures including, but not limited to:
    • RTI/MTSS
    • ICAP
    • 504
    • ALP
    • Standardized assessments
  • Masters in reading, education, special education, or related field
  • Three to five years prior K-5 teaching experience, K-3 preferred; preference for individuals with experience in varied positions, including reading teacher and classroom teacher
  • Valid state teacher certification with documented READ Act training

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary negotiable based upon qualifications and experience
  • Current salary schedule can be found here: MSD 22/23 Salary Schedule
