POSITION DESCRIPTION

St. Anne’s Episcopal School is pleased to announce an opening for an additional full-time  Middle School Learning Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. 

St. Anne’s Episcopal School is seeking a passionate and experienced Learning Specialist Teacher for the 2024 – 2025 academic year.  The highly organized professional should bring energy and skills in working effectively with students with learning differences as well as a passion for middle-school students to the position. The ideal candidate will have a learning specialist background and experience with middle school literacy and executive functioning expertise. The Middle School Learning Specialist will work collaboratively with the Middle School faculty and counterparts in the Lower School.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Demonstrate best practices and excellent skills in teaching students with learning differences and developing curricula to meet their needs.
  • Demonstrate skills in collaborating with colleagues across divisions and departments to support programming for students with learning differences.
  • Understand the development of middle-school students.
  • Has expertise and knowledge of middle school Language Arts and History.
  • Work with grade-level colleagues to understand all assignments given to students and to explain best methods for working with students with learning differences to classroom teachers.
  • Communicate effectively and meet with families about assignments, progress, and challenges a student with  a learning difference(s) is facing, using computer-based systems for tracking and reporting student progress.
  • Connect with students, challenge them, and give them confidence to succeed.
  • Function well both independently and in a team setting.
  • Create a positive learning environment.
  • Conduct preliminary screening for learning differences. 
  • Read psychoeducational reports and plan appropriate accommodations.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Be willing to contribute to other aspects of the middle school community, such as supervision duties, outdoor education trips, and service learning.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, Special Education, or Learning Differences/Disabilities preferred; MA, MS, or M.Ed highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working with students with learning differences. 
  • Candidates must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Be compassionate, kind, and love teaching and working with middle school students.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, resilience, accountability, and humor.
  • Be a lifelong learner passionate about their discipline, and continually refine and develop their pedagogy.
